The new NSW HSIE syllabus structures content into "terms" to sequence learning across stages, not school calendar terms. For example, Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), the syllabus content spans both years, but schools have flexibility in how they distribute and sequence the units across the actual school terms and years. You do not need to strictly assign Terms 1–4 to Year 1 and Terms 5–8 to Year 2.

These resources have been aligned with the sample NSW DET units, which have been provided as examples and can be used to guide your planning, as long as they address the required outcomes for the stage, which these do.

The key requirement is that all stage outcomes are taught and assessed by the end of that stage, with flexibility in planning to suit your school's context.
