COMMONLY CONFUSED WORDS Game - ACCEPT/EXCEPT - A Game to Banish the Confusion
Overview
Description
The misuse of accept and except occurs when students don't know the correct spelling to suit the context of a sentence. In my experience it is an incidental mistake as part of a more substantial piece of work. When this happens I have found simply correcting the misuse does not often work. This student has been confused about the correct use for some time.
This game started out as the CONFUSED WORD GAME for misuse of 'then' and 'than'. It was so effective I decided to make a bank of the misused words I was seeing and this is the third set of confused words I have adapted to the game. The motivation of playing a game embraces the repetition that will correct the skill. You usually only need about a week of constant playing and I also send it home if parents are on board and understand the need for constancy.
In this package you will receive:
--- 6 Game Boards
--- 48 Sentence Cards
--- Directions
--- Poster accept except A4 size
--- Answer Sheet for sentences
I work with students who have literacy and numeracy skill deficits so I have lots of resources and this is the kind of resource that I have laminated and boxed ready to grab when I need it. Games are so efficient in addressing skills, especially for those students who need lots of practice. You'll get through more examples with this game than you will with a worksheet, and they'll be having fun as well - BONUS!
